The Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) have been longtime partners in working toward an AIDS-free generation. Since 1990, EGPAF has been incredibly fortunate to be the charity of choice of the largest telecommunications union in the world.
On Wednesday (June 10), EGPAF was proud to celebrate this meaningful partnership at the 75th CWA Convention in Detroit. EGPAF Ambassador Fortunata Kasege shared her personal story and expressed sincere thanks to CWA members for their continued support. “If you would have told me when I was diagnosed with HIV that I would one day be the mother of two daughters and that they would both be HIV-free, I couldn’t even have imagined it. Now I can’t imagine a life without them. I am proud of the efforts that CWA has put forth to help give this gift to every mother and every child everywhere around the world—no matter where they live.”
Chip Lyons, EGPAF President and CEO also addressed union members and highlighted recent progress in our mission. “We can now end AIDS in children. When CWA first started supporting EGPAF, this was not a statement I could have made. New pediatric infections are down 95% in the US and 60% globally. We have reached more than 20 million women with services and will continue to reach more than 2.5 million pregnant women each year. This is what your support has helped achieved.”
For 25 years, CWA has generously invested nearly $8 million, helping to bring lifesaving programs and services to the mothers, families and children that need them the most. EGPAF greatly values the support of CWA and its members as we continue to reach more families, countries and communities, until no child has AIDS.
