Photo of the Day: Malawi at the Tipping Point

The Malawi National AIDS Commission (NAC) announced recently that the country has reached the tipping point in its fight against HIV/AIDS.

“We are now at a point where the annual increase in adults on treatment is greater than the number of annual new adult HIV infections. These strides have been driven by a combination of measures that have increased testing and improved access to medication,” said Mara Kumbweza-Banda, NAC board chairperson.

Even while celebrating such an incredible milestone, there was recognition that more work needed to be done. The country still records 50,000 new HIV infections every year

Here at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) we are extremely proud to have played a part in this achievement, through our nearly 14 years of working with the Malawi Ministry of Health and local partners to end pediatric AIDS.

Today we celebrate and recognize another step closer to the day when no man, woman, or child in Malawi has AIDS.
